Attention Helldivers, Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire. See details below in this post. Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games.
Well, well, well. I see Sony wants to kill all the goodwill their game has garnered with this linking bullshit.
Anyone know if Ghost of Tsushima is gonna require a PSN account? You know, since they’re adding in that whole overlay thing. I always figured it was gonna be optional but now, I’m not so sure.
For Helldivers specifically here, the PSN requirement was listed on the Steam page at launch. It wasn’t enforced, but it was disclosed.
Not saying I agree, it’s a shitty move that definitely seems like it’s being forced by Sony who couldn’t care any less about publicity. But this requirement was already there for anyone that bothered to read the store page, even if it wasn’t enforced at the time.
Do we actually know if it was? I mean, I know people from those countries bought it, but many of them use vpns to buy things they want to either pay less, or get them at all.
Account required of you want the multiplayer aspect, which is why I will not buy it since that’s the only reason I want to buy and play it since I’ve already finished it on the PS4 with a physical copy.

I would assume it will. Lesson learned: even if it doesn’t at launch, they could decide to require it at any time.
Devil’s advocate…

If that’s the case, then the game should not have been sold to those in countries that don’t have access to psn.

So for example, was it for sale in Egypt?
No argument from me there. Especially since they’re saying the only reason it wasn’t required was some sort of technical issue at launch.
According to their Twitter account it’s only required for online legends access. Single player requires no account
